Ribbon Cutting for NYSID’s Graduate Center Oct 18th, 2011

On October 18th, NYSID alumni, faculty, staff, trustees and friends came together at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Graduate Center, a 40,000 square feet space on two contiguous floors at 401 Park Avenue South on 28th Street.  The Graduate Center, designed by Gensler, was also recently certified LEED-CI Platinum by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

Guests were able to tour the entire space, see student work and meet the team that made it happen.  Patricia Sovern, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, gave a speech expressing her delight at the beautiful space.  She also thanked the Leadership Circle who helped make the Graduate Center a reality.  President Cyphers offered special thanks to NYSID’s partners: Amerlux Global Lighting Solutions, Capellini & the Poltrona Frau Group, Cassidy Turley New York, InterfaceFLOR, Jonathan Rose Companies, Lutron Electrics, Turner Construction and Gensler.  After the remarks, President Cyphers and Chairman Sovern cut the red ribbon.

NYSID New York Times Tour October 15th, 2011

Mitul Parekh, our NYSID Graduate Lighting Instructor from the MPS-L and MPS-S program, arranged a tour for our graduate students to the New York Times Building (designed by Renzo Piano).  Lutron Electronics organized this tour on our students’ behalf.  Glenn Hughes, the Director of Construction of the New York Times Building, served as the tour-guide and gave an insightful powerpoint presentation on lighting technologies incorporated into the building.

On behalf of NYSID, we would like to thank Glenn for his time (2 hours!) in giving our NYSID students one of the most thorough tours of Daylighting in a building.  We would also like to thank Lutron Electronics for arranging this tour.

Here are some photos of our NYSID faculty and students from the tour.
